About Medical Massage Therapy:

The word massage came from the Greek word “massein” which means to knead. Archaeological evidence of massage has been found in many ancient civilizations, and literature from all over the world have referred to pressing, kneading, and rubbing as a healing practice. Hippocrates (the Father of Medicine) wrote “The physician must be experienced in many things, but assuredly in rubbing.”

Today in some places, massage therapy is considered a regulated health profession – with the government and professional bodies requiring specific training, examination and standards of practice for massage therapists.
